August Birchbox vs. Ipsy Macthup
Time to get caught up on my monthly match-up! Birchbox vs Ipsy- simple enough! To get caught up- check out my Birchbox review for August here and my Ipsy August review here. Yes, the companies are different, but it's fun to match them up- plus it's just my opinion AND I love both companies!
Ipsy leads the way 6-1!
Birchbox vs Ipsy: A monthly feature pitting two Makeup/Beauty Subscriptions boxes against each other. These boxes are equal in pricing but not always equal in value! Check it out!
The Contenders:
Type: Beauty Box
Cost: $10/month includes shipping
What is it?: Every month you receive a box of 4-6 beauty and lifestyle products. Each month there are about 30+ different boxes that you might be sent which makes each month a surprise. Birchbox is a great forum to learn about and discover new products and brands. Birchbox has a points system given when a subscription plan is purchased, reviewing products, and buying full-size products in their shop. Every 100 points can be used as $10 off. Use my referral code to get started but know that Birchbox has a waiting period of usually 4-5 weeks.
Ipsy:
Type: Beauty Box
Cost: $10/month includes shipping
What is it?: Created by some of the top beauty bloggers/youtubers around, Ipsy subscribers receive a Glam Bag (a cute makeup bag) monthly with deluxe samples and full-size make-up products (usually 4-5 products). Ipsy sends out the same bag to everyone every month with some small differences usually based off of the Beauty Quiz you take when you sign up. Ipsy gives you a forum to load videos and pictures featuring looks made with your Glam Bag. Ipsy now has a referral points for extra goodies so if you sign up please use my link!!
Round 1- Wash it off!
Simple enough- two washes- one's a body wash, the other a face scrub. Because of my abundance of body wash and the price of face scrubs, plus Michael Todd's natural brand, I gotta go with the face scrub!
Winner: Ipsy
Round 2- Face
A primer vs. a BB Cream. It's a toss-up since I have a great primer and don't really use BB Creams. Pacifica edges it out because of the size and brand plus I do use BB creams when I'm rushing.
Winner: Ipsy
Round 3- Wipe it on
Worst round name ever. What matches up to a deodorant swipe?!? This is a no-brainer. An extra vs. a bronze eyeshadow from a brand I like.
Winner: Ipsy
Round 4- Tubular
They are tube shaped items. Yes. I'm failing. This mascara wasn't amazing but it's better than my millionth travel size hair spray.
Winner: Ipsy
Round 5- Lipstick
Liquid lipstick vs. sample stick. Red vs. pink. I do like my urban decay sample but my stila one is awesomely different. And it's vibrant and gorgeous.
Winner: Birchbox
Extras
Ipsy extras- neither were my favorite yet (not the bag or referral bonus) but they are still good items to get.
Ipsy wins 4-1!
Plus, technically the extra point. I honestly didn't think August's Ipsy bag was my favorite and it only edged out Birchbox in places because of sample size. Both had at least one great product and a bunch of stuff that I'd use but wasn't thrilled over. I love both boxes though and can't wait to see the match-up for September!

I have that OC8 gel and it's actually really nice...such a tiny sample they sent out though. I have the full sized tube and it's lasting forever.
ReplyDeleteI got that stila liquid lipstick, too, and I can't decide how I feel about it! It IS different and cool, but I kind of wish it was in a slightly more subtle color! I don't mind a bold lip sometimes, but the combo of the color and the serious staying power makes this one a bit intense for me, haha!
Last month I liked my Birchbox more than my Ipsy bag. But when you break it down by value, Ipsy probably does win. I can't wait to see your battle for September.
