June Birchbox vs. Ipsy Matchup

I for some reason almost forget every month to post my matchup! It's time to check out my Birchbox vs. Ipsy matchup! And yes, I know I need a new photo with Birchbox's new logo- I'll get to it. Check out full reviews here: June 2013 Review (Birchbox) and June 2013 Review (Ipsy).

A monthly feature pitting two Makeup/Beauty Subscriptions boxes against each other. These boxes are equal in pricing but not always equal in value! Check it out!

The score card is standing at a whopping 5-0 for Ipsy!

The Contenders:

Umm, this month's boxes were sooo different so I apologize in advance on how my rounds make no sense at all.

Round 1: Color!

Weird match-up here. A Cream blush that's a nice color but it's a cream blush which I don't really love and a beautiful polish that is from the color club brand which kind of blows. Super toss up but I gotta go with a beautiful polish cause I can find a way around a bad formula since I have a million and one amazing blushes and don't need to force one I don't love into my repertoire.

Winner: Birchbox

Round 2: White Stuff? (I know, it's terrible)

I was super excited about my new highlighter pencil from Ipsy (and still am) but I actually haven't tried it yet... maybe it will become my new make-up best friend but right now it's like the forgotten middle child (ouch- what am I talking about?) and is sitting on my desk untouched. The powder is great and I've used it several times. In fact, it's the first powder I've considered replacing my BareMinerals with!

Winner: Birchbox

Round 3: Tall-ish stuff (omg, it's horrible!)

This was another hard one- btw the pics are backwards with Birchbox on the right. I thought about calling it favs but I'm not sure the shampoo is my fav from Birchbox (probably second fav). I really loved the shampoo but I already have a Cailyn gel pot liner (in black) and while it's not my fav liner (I like Mica), I know it's a good liner and this one is purple which is fun! It's a close call, since the shampoo does smell fantastic but in the end this round goes to the liner!

Winner: Ipsy

Round 4: Bare!

See what I did there? Bare? A lip liner in Bare and a scrub to make your face bare... I'm trying. This one is a no-brainer. This suki scrub is awesome-sauce. It smells sooo good and makes your skin feel great. I do use my clarisonic regularly but I use this wash either as a pre-cursor wash (when I have crazy stage makeup on) or when I want my face to smell awesome. I could definitely see buying this full-size product. The lip liner is nice but it can't compare- sorry.

Winner: Birchbox

Round 5: Bleh items

A "styling" oil that didn't do much even when I attempted to use it as both a styler AND a treatment and a  palette of glitter that you shouldn't use around your eyes?? Real close one but I'm gonna go with the oil simply for the fact that the palette I've saved for Halloween and the like will probably get thrown out before it would be time to use.

Winner: Birchbox

Round 6: Leftovers?

This conditioner sounded awesome especially since the shampoo of the same brand is great BUT it didn't live up to it's promises. The bracelet is an extra but it's awesome enough to be included- this is an easy one.

Winner: Ipsy

Extras: So, Birchbox had an extra of postcards and you can throw in Ipsy's makeup bag but neither are really stellar enough to compete. I love Ipsy's bags but this one wasn't my style so we're gonna leave it up to a total of 6 rounds!

Birchbox wins 4-2!

Tough one this month but it looks like I was in love with Birchbox more this month than Ipsy! May's Ipsy bag was amazing so maybe that's why June's bag was so lackluster but I think it's just that Birchbox really turned around for me in awesomeness this month and *spoiler* my July box (which came yesterday) is pretty stellar too! Awesome job Birchbox- way to pull out of the shut-out Ipsy was creating! Until next time...

  1. I was disappointed with the June Ipsy box as well!! Body glitter palette? That stuff gets everywhere?! Yuck! THIS month(July) I have to give it to Ipsy. Loved the July ipsy bag!
