IndieSpensable Volume 40 Review
Enter my Honest Company Giveaway!
Already time for another IndieSpensable shipment! I read both of the last books in NY and they were super different from each other but both good. I actually liked the "extra" book better than the main book- really inventive. This is an expensive sub for me but I can't help indulging in a indie book subscription. I may have to take a tiny break from this box... but not yet!
Type: Print/Indie Box
Cost: $39.95/shipment includes shipping (add $12 if outside the US)
What is it?: From website: "Powell's subscription club delivers the best new books, with special attention to independent publishers. Signed first editions. Inventive, original sets. Not only do you get a first edition of a great book that is signed but other surprises and gifts are included as well as interviews and Q&As with the author. Past books include Freedom, The Marriage Plot, and The Night Circus.
The box!
First look!
All wrapped up- looks like a double book package again!
The schtuff!
In the House upon the Dirt Between the Lake and the Woods: Talk about a title! This is the main object of this volume's IndieSpensable shipment. As usual, I got a signed copy of Matt Bell's book in a unique hardcover slipcase. This book is supposed to be about is about marriage, parenthood, and the dreams parents have for their children- based on a lonely existence of a couple living between the lake and the woods attempting to start a family. Duh, I'll read it.
Bobcat and other stories: This book of short stories was also included in this shipment. I have to admit I was a little surprised to see another double book shipment but I guess I'll take it. Short stories aren't always my thing so I'm excited to break out of my usual literary preferences.
Exclusive Booklet: This is one of my favorite things about IndieSpensable! I love reading facts about the author, how they curated the box, and of course the q & a about the book. It explains so much and it's an awesome extra.
Powell's Magnet: I loved the Powell's Kanteen last volume but this magnet is pretty meh to me. It could be because it's a magnet but I think it's mainly because it's another Powell's ad. Maybe it'll give me hipster cred but really it's not a super exciting extra. I admit, I wish it related more to the actual book.
Verdict: Another fun shipment from IndieSpensable! I've heard really great things about the main book and it'll be interesting to read the short stories book. I'm keepin' on with this sub until I literally have to choose between food and subscription boxes. Let's hope it doesn't come to that. Check 'em out at Powell's website- the next volume highlights Brewster!
