Birchbox vs. Ipsy: March Matchup

I know it's a bit late but I am finally getting my Birchbox vs. Ipsy matchup up for March! Know that this is based on MY opinion and some people may disagree and it is based on my particular boxes.

The score for the year has Ipsy leading 2-0: check out the past months here and here!

The Contenders:

*Birchbox:
Type: Beauty Box
Cost: $10/month includes shipping
What is it?: Every month you receive a box of 4-6 beauty and lifestyle products. Each month there are about 30+ different boxes that you might be sent which makes each month a surprise. Birchbox is a great forum to learn about and discover new products and brands. Birchbox has a points system given when a subscription plan is purchased, reviewing products, and buying full-size products in their shop. Every 100 points can be used as $10 off. Use my referral code to get started but know that Birchbox has a waiting period of usually 4-5 weeks.

*Ipsy:
Type: Beauty Box
Cost: $10/month includes shipping
What is it?: Created by some of the top beauty bloggers/youtubers around, Ipsy subscribers receive a Glam Bag (a cute makeup bag) monthly with deluxe samples and full-size make-up products (usually 4-5 products). Ipsy sends out the same bag to everyone every month with some small differences usually based off of the Beauty Quiz you take when you sign up. Ipsy gives you a forum to load videos and pictures featuring looks made with your Glam Bag. Unfortunately, there is no room right now for new subscribers. I'll post when there is availability again.

Round 1: Spray it!

L Ipsy- R Birchbox
A hydrating mist vs. a dry shampoo. This might have been the toughest category of them all- why? Neither product stunned! The hydrating mist doesn't have the best smell although it does the job. I finally tried the Serge Normant dry shampoo yesterday from Birchbox and woah- terrible! It felt like hairspray and made my hair sticky and matted with a nice white dull powder look. Oofta. Bad news.

Winner: Ipsy

Round 2: Just throw it in your bag!

Top Birchbox- Bottom Ipsy
Let me just say how hard it is to group these things into categories! This was about those products designed to be "on the go." This was kind of a tough matchup since the Madewell emery board is gorgeous but I just love the GlamRX mirror and magnetic compact so much I had to go with that!

Winner: Ipsy

Round 3: Take it off!

L: Birchbox- R: Ipsy

Get it? Take it off? Get rid of that unwanted hair and get rid of that makeup! I have said before that I use body wash and don't get the need for shave cream. That being said, having a luxurious shave is kind of nice. This was a no-brainer for me though since I am allergic to makeup wipes!

Winner: Birchbox

Round 4: Color me pretty!

L: Birchbox- R: Ipsy
These two happened to work the best to match-up but unfortunately it didn't matter what got paired with these two Yaby eyeshadows. 2 is better than 1? Well yes, but that's not why they trump anything, the reason is that they are fantastic! I wear these pretty much everyday now! I had a makeup artist make me up all pretty for my Dallas debut in Jan and he used a beautiful red-ish color on me that make my skin and eyes pop! I have been looking to match that color and for some reason this purple-toned shadow does just that! I put some on the lid and the light cream near my brow line and it looks great! You know it looks good when people actually compliment you specifically on your eye makeup. I like the appliques but the color palette isn't my fav, but again, hard for anything to compete with my new beauty find!

Winner: Ipsy

Round 5: Extra extra!

Top: Ipsy- Bottom: Birchbox
This was hard to break into rounds mainly because of the number of products since I didn't want to break up the two Yaby eyeshadows. Since a lot of people consider the twistband an extra I thought I would pair it with the Ipsy bag. Usually I don't include the bag in matchups but I thought it would work this time around because this has been my fav bag to date!

That being said- I struggled making a choice between the two! I love this cute bag but I also love twistbands. I have a bunch of twistband now from their subscription BUT I also have several makeup bags from Ipsy so I can't use the argument of "I already have this." A conundrum. I thought about flipping a coin but in the end I decided on which I would end up using more...

Winner: Ipsy

With a score of 4-1 Ipsy is once again triumphant!

Even if I would have given the last round to Birchbox, I guess it wouldn't have mattered. I know some people didn't love this month's Ipsy bag but it was one of my favorites just because of the major find with the eyeshadows. It's always interesting to see how these two very different beauty subs match-up!

Let's look at the year so far:

January: Ipsy
February: Ipsy
March: Ipsy

See you next month!

    1. Like I said, totally MY opinion. I couldn't help being swayed by the eyeshadows- they are soo perfect for me! Not to say, I didn't like my BB- except for that horrid dry shampoo!
My April BB is awesome though- I see a upset even though ipsy's bag this month is also totally my style.

  2. I think that Ipsy looks disappointing. XD I resubed to BB and omg, did I miss it! It's like I was missing an old friend! I peeked at my box and it couldn't be any more perfect! I'll have a use for every single item - plus the 60 points for reviews. WOOOOO! Fakeup, here I come! (soon)

I also was on ipsy waitlist and got an email to get this month's bag. This month's bag looks good, but I am not sure I'll keep it for next month unless the spoilers look good.

    1. Some people really don't like Ipsy and same for BB actually. It's weird how it really fits some people better than others. I do LOVE the points system for BB. When I get enough points I'll do another BB box giveaway!
And I sooo want to try the Benefit Fakeup- hope it's amazing!
