April Birchbox Review

I got my Birchbox earlier this week but because of an issue with my box I waited until a response from Birchbox customer service to post! They were speedy in replying to me and without further ado my April Birchbox!

Check out my latest Giveaway here!

Birchbox:
Type: Beauty Box
Cost: $10/month includes shipping
What is it?: Every month you receive a box of 4-6 beauty and lifestyle products. Each month there are about 30+ different boxes that you might be sent which makes each month a surprise. Birchbox is a great forum to learn about and discover new products and brands. Birchbox has a points system given when a subscription plan is purchased, reviewing products, and buying full-size products in their shop. Every 100 points can be used as $10 off. Use my referral code to get started but know that Birchbox has a waiting period of usually 4-5 weeks.

This month Birchbox partnered with Women's Health!

I didn't take a pic but each box included a 1 yr subscription to Women's Health OR the $9.99 in cash.
I think I'm gonna go for the magazine... still deciding since the money would pay for a month of Birchbox!

Unboxing!

I got Box 13 which online looked fantastic! At first look when I unboxed I was bummed by my sample sizes- two of them are beyond tiny! But my real confusion was where was the 6th product?!?! Online my box says it was supposed to include Yes To Carrots towelettes. It's not like I was dying for them but I was confused. My online list/photos included that product but the box and info card don't have it listed. This makes my box go from 6 to 5 products which is also 10 points (or a $1). Like I said, confused. The products in my box didn't astound me (I wish I was getting the Mirenesse lipstick- it's orange-ish too which I am dying for!) but I liked the volume. I contacted Birchbox wondering if there was an error and showed them a screen grab of my online box- they in turn are giving my 50 points since there are no more samples left. I'd say that is pretty awesome! Score one for Birchbox customer service!

Juice Beauty- Stem Cellular Repair CC Cream: To be honest, I don't do the BB Cream thing so going into CC cream is a giant leap. 12 in 1 though? I'll take it. The tint actually works on my skin but ugh the smell is pretty bad. Ick. I'll give it a try though. The sample is smaller than my thumb so it'll only last a few uses and I think the smell will prevent me from wanting to buy. The Juice Beauty product I got from Ipsy also had a weird smell- hmm. Price: $3.90

*Update- the bad smell went away a bit leaving a better smell behind. Phew!

Yes To Carrots- Lip Butter in Mint: I have to admit, the online boxes fooled me! I thought I was gonna get small samples of the whole set of 4 instead of one full-size product. Ah well. I do like yes to carrots so I know I will use this. Price: $2.50

Caudalie- SOS Morning Eye Rescue: Sorry for people who hate on my opinion, but I am so sick of getting Caudalie samples! They are TINY! This one is 0.05 oz. Not even 1 oz. TINY! Umm my pup destroyed this a bit somehow (we guess it fell off my desk while I was taking picture). He didn't get at the product but it was still pretty gross. I had put some on my eyes and didn't feel anything although that doesn't mean it didn't work. Every Caudalie sample I have gotten hasn't worked though so I didn't have high hopes. Price: $3.40

Beauty Protector- Protect & Detangle: I'd seen this before in past month's boxes and never really wanted it. With my fine hair I don't need a detangler! People said it was great though so I didn't write it off completely. I'm glad I didn't since this product has tons of functions, including adding shine which is great since I use Bb's Shine daily (great for locking down flyaways)! Have't used this yet but I am excited now to try it! And THIS is a good sized sample! Price: ~$5

Yes To Carrots- Daily Facial Scrub and Dark Spot Correcting Serum: This is a one-two punch kind of product from Yes to Carrots. I'm all for trying their dark spot correcting serum- I use clinique's one and it is awesome! I use a clarisonic so I don't have much use for an exfoliating scrub but I bet this smells amazing and since I got it, I will use it. Price: ~$3

Verdict: The products in this box totaled $17.80 plus you can add in the magazine sub which makes this $27.79. Not too shabby. Without the magazine sub, it was would be one of the less expensive boxes I've gotten so far. This was a mixed bag for me since I wanted to love it. That being said I am psyched for the detangler and I will use the yes to carrots products. I think I am just bitter towards the baby caudalie samples I keep getting! Also, this is the 4th month in a row that I haven't gotten ANY makeup from Birchbox so I think I may call-in to try and get a change-up in boxes by working through changing my profile. I changed my preferences to just asking for makeup (hoping it would get me something) but I keep getting no makeup and a bunch of age-defying stuff. Weirdness. Not my fav box but some good stuff included. Super excited about the using the yes to carrots stuff and deciding on what to do with the magazine sub!

  1. See I got that same CC cream in my last Birchbox and the smell did NOT go away. It was terrible. Glad it worked better on you!

    1. It did go away- but I guess that was just from testing it on my hand... now that I think about it, it might be terrible. The smell is really terrible- how did that not smell it when they made the product.

  2. I got a Birch Box in April as well but besides the mag subscription I had totally different items. So weird.

  3. The lack of makeup was my reason for canceling. I was never all that excited for the hair/bath/lotion products and it seemed like the only makeup I'd get occasionally was a lipstick, which I don't use. Birchbox was great for introducing me to the sample box world, but I discovered there were much better boxes out there for me to spend my money on.

    1. Agreed. It's a popular box and I have a year sub right now so I will get it for awhile. I think everyone should get it first though since it is the gateway drug of subscription boxes.
