May Birchbox Review

It is definitely a makeup posting type of day! Maybe it's because I got three makeup boxes at once, but whatever, it seemed like a perfect time to get my Birchbox posted! I only peeked a bit this month and didn't scroll through all 41 boxes this month until AFTER getting my box, but I have to say, I think I got one of the best boxes this month if not THE best! Check it out!

Last few hours to enter my latest Giveaway!

Birchbox:
Type: Beauty Box
Cost: $10/month includes shipping
What is it?: Every month you receive a box of 4-6 beauty and lifestyle products. Each month there are about 30+ different boxes that you might be sent which makes each month a surprise. Birchbox is a great forum to learn about and discover new products and brands. Birchbox has a points system given when a subscription plan is purchased, reviewing products, and buying full-size products in their shop. Every 100 points can be used as $10 off. Use my referral code to get started but know that Birchbox has a waiting period of usually 4-5 weeks.

Ah, the familiar pink, then brown, boxes!

Ta-da! Unboxing and info cards! I got Box #1 this month (craziness) and this month they did a Beauty Diary thing.

Isaac Mizrahi- Fabulous: My little yellow/orange box held two items- the first being this perfume sample from Isaac Mizrahi. Birchbox actually just updated their style preferences (score) to ask whether you want a lot of perfume samples or not as many as before. You can't get rid of all perfume samples (sorry, I know a lot of people wish that) but you can stop getting them 12 months a year! I'm hoping the extra preferences on the style quiz mean they are going to take our wants more into account than they have been!

Ok, on to the actual product, I'm actually wearing my rollerball scent from my BlushBox right now (it's fantastic) and so it was a bit hard to test this at the same time. It's supposed to be mandarin, jasmine, and vanilla, but I am having a hard time smelling any vanilla. I didn't like it at first but in the past 10 minutes it's really grown on me. We'll see. I never buy full-size bottles of perfume anymore with my huge horde of samples but I'm trying to go through and see which ones I actually like so, again, we'll see. Price: $1.69

Cargo- Water Resistant Blush in Ibiza: This was my "excited" item aka I was actually excited for it! My first actual make-up in months from Birchbox!!! AND it's gorgeous. Seriously, it's so pretty and I am in love with it's little tin! This color is perfect for me and it is apparently waterproof which is a huge score! A lot of boxes got a Sumita Color Contrast Eyeliner, many in some strange color, as the "make-up" in boxes (or a Lip plumper) so I am so happy to be one of the lucky few who got a box with this inside!
Price: $14.85

*I could not find the full-size size anywhere except on an ebay sell so the price is based on that. It's pretty close to full-sized though.

COOLA- Classic Face SPF 30 Cucumber Moisturizer for Face: You'd think I'd be like,"ugh, sunscreen," but I am loving that I got this this month. I don't care about the antiaging stuff in it (I'm 24) but if this is an awesome face sunscreen I will be stoked. I like the Neutrogena sunscreen sprays, they are light, non-oily, and get the job done, but I am open for new loves! Price: $4.33

Juice Beauty- Green Apple Peel Sensitive: This is my fourth Juice Beauty Product and my second face one- the last being the "I smell like garbage, now rub me on your face" product. This, however, barely has a scent, and the small one it does have is light and airy. I've used a peel once and it was a bit frightening to me but this one uses organic and fruit-derived products to exfoliate and brighten skin. Sounds good to me!
Price: $4.88

Runa- Guayusa Tea: This was my lifestyle extra this month and also one of my favs from the box! I don't know why but I think it looks awesome. I think I may be a packaging snob because I think that is what is swaying me to love this product. Guayusa tea apparently has more antioxidants than green tea and is flowing with caffeine. Uh, could this be my new fav tea?? I'm stoked. Price: $1.75

***I mentioned the "pen debacle" before and thought I should clarify, while I got Tea as my "Lifestyle Extra," the majority of people got a pen. Some people got Macaroons or nothing... alright you get my point. People were soooo mad/disappointed to get a pen. I love office supplies, for realsies, but I wouldn't want to buy a box and get a pen- it was supposed to go with the Beauty Diary theme but a lot of people especially hated the variety of colors that went out. Let's just say childish. Some people LOVED it, so you got a complete 180 on that one. It's like a "what side are you on" kind of debate. Alright, that's the info!

Verdict: Like I said before, I think I got one of the best boxes! I thought something like box #4 or #5 looked good too (can't remember) but I do remember that it also had the Cargo blush included. In fact, the other boxes I liked had almost exactly what this box contained. In the past, I usually liked the low numbered boxes best so I am all for getting box #1 again! (I hope I don't eat my words!) Anyway, thank you Birchbox for giving me makeup again!! I am going to use ALL the products this month and I have to say, I am loving this perfume right now (I kept smelling myself throughout writing this). All totaled my $10 box was worth $27.50. A pretty good box for me, not my most expensive, but not the cheapest. Like I say, I care more about the products than the monetary value and this box's products definitely fit me this month. Definitely one of the better boxes I've had in a while from Birchbox!

    1. It's definitely one of the better boxes I've gotten this year. It's hard to not get BB since it's on the cheap side! Just can't help myself!

  2. I didn't get any of the things in your box! Your box looks awesome. I am a sucker for tea myself. I didn't get the pen though. I was happy with my box, but it is very different from yours.

    1. There were 41 different boxes this month so a lot of people have completely different products! Sometimes it's depressing to look through all the different boxes since you can stumble upon THE box you wish you would have gotten!

  3. Laura how do you look at all the different boxes each month?

    1. I get that question a lot and it's a bit confusing so hopefully I make sense! An easy way is to go to this link:
      https://www.birchbox.com/shop/birchbox-1/may2013/may-2013-bb-1

That is box 1- see the 1 at the end of the link? Change out the number to see the other boxes.
To get to this link every month go to your Box tab on BB and at the bottom where it says "Box History" click on that month- it will redirect you to this link but with whatever box you have that month.

I hope that makes sense so you can see this month's and know how to do it on your own too!
