March Birchbox Review
After 15 days of "shipping" my Birchbox finally arrived! I put "shipping" in quotation marks since my box left on the 7th, was in Dallas on the 9th, expected delivery on the 13th, and arrived on the 22nd... Uhh what happened?!?! I knew what was in my box- I peeked- but after waiting so long I had pretty much forgotten what was in it!
*Birchbox:
Type: Beauty Box
Cost: $10/month includes shipping
What is it?: Every month you receive a box of 4-6 beauty and lifestyle products. Each month there are about 30+ different boxes that you might be sent which makes each month a surprise. Birchbox is a great forum to learn about and discover new products and brands. Birchbox has a points system given when a subscription plan is purchased, reviewing products, and buying full-size products in their shop. Every 100 points can be used as $10 off. Use my referral code to get started but know that Birchbox has a waiting period of usually 4-5 weeks.
About my long shipping wait: I contacted customer service about my box since it seemed like it was never coming and they were quick in replying and gave me a great option. They offered to send out a box with a mixture of samples- it may not have been the samples in my original March box but it would be something! I was impressed that they responded so quickly and not with an excuse but with a solution.
Box within a box.
This month is "March Madness." In my opinion: the themes don't ever really apply- they are just something to put on the info card.
Unboxing! I knew all my products except one variant- so it still had a bit of a surprise aspect.
I got Box #6 out of 37.
Madewell for Birchbox Emery Board: Every box got this Beauty Extra this month. Madewell is pairing with Birchbox now which is great! This really nice emery board has their floral print on it and a Madewell case so you can throw this in your purse. Price: $5
Serge Normant's Meta Revive Dry Shampoo: I wasn't excited about this product. Why? Because I got a dry-shampoo sample last October from Birchbox and then bought the full-size product from them- I love it and do not need anymore! I HATE repeats! This is a different kind though and will try it but I don't have high expectations considering the super low rating people have given this product. Price: $11.11
My set |
Incoco Nail Polish Applique: This is my second ever set of nail strips and I have to admit I was excited to try them out. My box on Birchbox's site showed the second picture in my box, but unfortunately that isn't the set I actually got. I will definitely use them but I still wish I would have gotten the blue set! Price: $10
Whish Shave Crave Shaving Cream: I have tried shaving gels/creams/blah blah blah and in my humble opinion, they are a waste of money. Every one I have tried doesn't work as well as body wash. Knowing my preferences, I was crossing my fingers that I didn't get this product in my box (I looked through all the other boxes before peeking at mine). I'll give it a try but unless it is a miraculous product this will probably go to waste. Price: $2.94
Twistband Headband: I love Twistbands as seen here and that fact that I subscribe to their box so I will, of course, use this. This is only my second Twistband headband so I will take it! Price: $4
Verdict: All totaled, this box is valued at $33.05, quite pricey for my $10 paid, not including $6 for reviews. Not my favorite box and not my least favorite box, this box has some misses and then a bunch of "meh, I guess I'll try it" products. I like to be surprised in a box but I more and more wish I could pick my Birchboxes! I may have liked this box if I didn't watch their sneak peek video or look through all the boxes but I wish you had the choice to tell Birchbox at the end of the month which boxes you would have loved and use that to change preferences and to pick the box they send you the next month. Birchbox's big partnership this month was with MAKE cosmetics but only a handful of boxes got those products. I wish I would have gotten a box with MAKE lipsticks or one with Benetint!
Some boxes I wish I had gotten:

I didn't write down the other boxes with MAKE lipsticks/makeup remover but there were only two other boxes with those products! There was one mega bummer box too so a sigh of relief that I didn't get that one, although I'm sure someone who got it loved it! Everyone is different!

Where do you see all the different boxes? Also I seriously got the EXACT same one as you. I was excited about the dry shampoo but I feel like its the same quality as drugstore brands.
ReplyDeleteIt's easy to see what box you got but hard to explain:
Delete1. Go to your Box tab on the birchbox.
2. You will see that month's box featured but what you want to do is scroll down to where all your boxes are listed in list form by month under "Box History" and re-click on your month.
3. The new page's web address will have a number at the end of it like mine: https://www.birchbox.com/shop/birchbox-1/march-2013/march2013bb6 <---- see the 6
4. You can then click change the number and see all that month's boxes. I usually start at 1 and go up and at some point the page will re-direct and that means you have gone past how many boxes there are.
This month you can just copy/paste the address I put on to check things out but that's the process for future months!
I was thinking about resubscribing to BB, but not sure. Some of the stuff in these boxes seemed kinda interesting. It is better than the stuff that came in them when I unsubscribed. I would have loved to get Benetint in my box or those nail stickers! I can't really paint my nails right now. xD
ReplyDeleteI would be really happy with the dry shampoo! Only because the only one I've used is Suave, which actually works for me. I know some people hate dry shampoo because of the white stuff it leaves behind. Makes me glad I have light red hair! If I had darker hair, I'd probably hate it. You should at least try it. It might be better! :D
But thinking about it, it might be a bad idea for me to sub to BB. I have a feeling self tanners and bronzers will be seen soon. D: (I hate those with a passion.)
I have an amazing dry shampoo- and I have dark hair. I've tried several and my favorite is Lulu Organics® Jasmine Hair Powder which I got through a Birchbox sample and then bought- pretty sure it will last me a million years since it is a powder and only takes a tiny bit to use! Aerosol ones usually only last a few uses and don't work as well.
DeleteI'm hoping for Benetint someday too! They have been sending out some of the Birchbox top sellers which is how I got theBalm® cosmetics Mary-Lou Manizer one time and it is amazing!! And I am thinking now I will try the nail stickers for Easter since they are spring-y!
I definitely don't want tanners or bronzers! I have porcelain, uber fair skin! I doubt they will have that much focus on those though but we shall see.
I got some of the same products you did this time. I wasn't a fan of this dry shampoo, I honestly like the one I have from Suave a lot better. This one was too sticky. I also got some CC cream and HATED it. So was not a huge fan of the box this time around. We'll see if next month is better. I wish I had the nail art things you got, I want to play with those!
ReplyDeleteI got box 29. I loved it but I really wanted the macadamia oil.
ReplyDeleteOh and a Twistband headband.
DeleteMy favorite dry shampoo is Batiste, maybe the cheapest, easiest to find product ever, but for some reason works better than anything else for me.
ReplyDeleteThis one is pricey and has had terrible reviews. I used dry shampoo yesterday but not this one since I don't know where I packed it...
DeleteI got box 21. I really loved the Make makeup remover (though it took me a while to get up the nerve to try it on my sensitive skin) and I liked the emery board. The Caldera lotion is too highly scented for me though it had a nice texture so if they had an unscented version I might try it). The lipstick wasn't anything special-- it probably didn't help that I got a really unflattering color & the sample was very unattractively packaged (I'm shallow that way). I really disliked the dry shampoo-- it made my hair sticky and smelly.
ReplyDeleteThat's too bad about the lipstick and don't worry I totally judge a book by it's cover when it comes to packaging. And I'm so glad to hear I am not alone with that dry shampoo- it was just awful!
DeleteI may have to give their makeup remover a try...
