YokoTea February Review
I received my 3rd month of YokoTea this week and have put off putting up the review for some odd reason. I subscribed to a three month plan so for all my fellow tea-drinkers out there I put up all 3 months of my YokoTea experience.*YokoTea:
Type: Drink Box
Cost: $10.95/month includes shipping
What is it?: Each month you receive 2-5 (usually 3) varieties of loose leaf tea. The Fine Tea's first month includes a cute steeper and you get the choice of Herbal or Herbal+Caffeinated. There are different exotic types and they are can be bundled into a three month option for a loose leaf tea start-up. Teas are organic and fair trade and purchasing this tea support causes around the globe.
Ah- the obligatory just-opened shot.
Here's my actual bunch of goodies. I didn't take a separate pic of the info card as it is really just a welcome card- as in welcome to this box of tea goodness. Anyway, on to the actual teas! By the way, I subscribe to the Herbal + Caffeinated option to get a mix of black/herbal/etc teas.
First up is Awesome. Yep, a tea called awesome- it is an Assam Banaspaty and the quote below says "It's the imperfections that make things beautiful," true dat tea pouch. Anyway, this is a Black tea and for those who don't know what Assam Banaspaty is (like me) it is grown in India's Assam Valley on the Banaspaty Estate- ahh it makes sense now.
Where did I learn what Assam Banaspaty is? Why on the back of the pouch- that's where! Each pouch's back has a wealth of knowledge from the Type, Steeping Time, ingredients, and explanation of the tea, and even what it is good for- like this one gives you some pep in your step! I didn't take pics of all the backs but that is where I got a lot of the info.
Next is Masterpiece- an Organic Moroccan Green Tea with Spearmint. The card said these teas take you to exotic lands like Morocco- guess that card really was an intro to this box. I love the little touches here: There is an Algerian proverb on the front and the back info talks about spearmint's health benefits and the use of tea in Moroccan culture.
My last bag this month is Polarity, an Organic Hibiscus Tulsi Blend. This tea has hibiscus, cinnamon, lemon peel, orange peel, and Tulsi. Tulsi is a variety of plant known as Holy Basil which explains the three kinds in this blend being called Krishna, Rama, and Vana. The hibiscus' Vitamin C helps reduce cholesterol and lowers blood pressure too.
Before I say my thoughts and such I thought I should show my hauls from January & December. Especially since I haven't actually tried any of this month's teas yet.
Ok- full disclosure I am not sure that these were all Jan teas- there could be a Dec one in there:
Sun Princess: Organic Mango Black Tea: Umm so I love this Mango Tea- It is delish!
Air: Organic Jasmine Rose Green Tea: I CAN'T believe I haven't tried this one yet. It look crazy good: Hard to see so here is a close-up:
Look at those flowers! There are legit roses in this tea. Mmm must drink!
The third tea in the pic 2 above is Lucidity: Organic Lemon Lavender Black Tea. Can you tell we like it? Lemon +Lavender is amazing so of course we have had it pretty much every time we want tea!
Lavender- from Lucidity |
Now, my first month of the service back in December:
Bliss: Organic Cacao Mint- aka Mint Hot Chocolate for Tea drinkers
Tranquility: Organic Coconut Sencha Green Tea- I am not a fan of Coconut but I love this tea- it gives you a peaceful, tranquil state
Divinity: Organic Rooibos Coconut Chai- again Coconut, but the rooibos and chai really balance each other
Verdict: Ok- I didn't price these but c'mon I got 30+ cups of tea a month for less that $10/month (mine is $9.94/month with a three month subscription). Starbucks can NOT beat that! Plus you get to try really exotic flavors AND they give to charities and causes around the globe hence the slogan: the tea club with purpose. I really enjoyed my three month subscription with them and the only reason I canceled is that I don't drink tea regularly enough to keep up- although I wish I did drink more since it is so good for you! I may re-subscribe later but for now I am a super satisfied customer who learned the beauty of loose-leaf teas!
Do you remember how many cups of tea each pouch actually made?
