I Wish Wednesday
So my boyfriend asked me at dinner what my I wish Wednesday post was today and I couldn't help but be touched that he 1. remembered and 2. cared. He's too cute. So I decided to make sure I did one today.I know my I wishes have been about sub boxes mainly but it is so hard to not have sub boxes on the brain while spending so much time researching and putting things on the master list.
I wish.... I could get IndieSpensable...
This book subscription box was completely unknown to me up until 2 days ago! I had heard of a few book ones before like Just the right book and such but never indieSpensable! I am in love with this service now and am a bit upset I didn't even know about it until now!
*Side note: For me to have never even heard of a box is kinda big since I have wasted... uh I mean used so much of my time looking up boxes before I even had this blog!
This subscription service from Powell's books comes every 6-8 weeks and picks a great new book with special attention to independent publishers. You don't just get the book but a signed first edition of that book in exclusive printings. You also get extras including books in the same vein, food, products, etc etc. How bout some examples: With The Night Circus (I posted above b/c it was a fav read of mine) that was signed with a Q &A you received:
This Gourmet bag of Pecan Bourbon Caramel Corn a la the Circus aspect and a book I've never heard of: The Vanishers that is supposed to have a magical flair too. Ahh- so jealous! Oh btw The Vanishers hadn't even been released when this was sent out aka subscribers got this book 6 months before anyone else got to set their eyes on it.
Example #2: A signed first edition in an exclusive slipcase of Karen Thompson Walker's The Age of Miracles with a Q &A with the author of course... came with:
The book apparently piqued their paranoia which led to a multi-function survival tool being sent out (it can do it all from open bottles to saw wood) along with a set of close-to indestructible utensils. I love it all!
Each set has been super unique and just by going through the previous sets I have found books I want to read (hello, if I loved The Night Circus then I better find The Vanishers). I am a big reader and like to read print books (as in actual books I hold in my hand) along with books on my Kindle. I'm a lover of transporting to different worlds, places, and times.
I wish I could get IndieSpensables but...
I can't afford it this time around!
Yes! I said this time around because I want want want this subscription and I will find a way! This combines two awesome things: indie boxes and print boxes or I should say it combines two loves of mine- small businesses and books! I am beyond strapped right now- puppy Henry had to have surgery to get some teeth extracted and poof- there went my money! At $34.95 (including shipping) it looks like you are getting what you pay and more considering most of these books would be around $20 new ($10 used) and they are first editions AND signed AND in special cases/printings plus a lot of times you get two books and fun things or yummy food! They sent out harmonicas in August. Harmonicas. I- just- love- it! Anyway, check them out and on the homepage on the lefthand side you can sign up for their newsletter and be entered to win $100 in Powell's Books. Book lovers rejoice for indieSpensable- I know I am!
Powell's is my local bookstore.the store is a full city block and 3 or 4 floors. Its amazing! I remember they did this but thought it was more expensive. I might do this one!
ReplyDeleteI don't live anywhere near a Powell's but I might become a frequent customer of their sub service. So happy to have a book lover as a reader!
DeleteThis is SUCH a great idea for a subscription box! Thanks so much for telling me about it, I have to check them out now =D
