Ok so this adorable box came in an envelope which I took a picture of BUT I did a terrible job crossing out my address so fail! Anyway, I wish I would have done better because the envelope's addresses were hand-written and I love those extra touches. I mean how cute is this little box all tied up with string (think "My Favorite Things" from The Sound of Music).
I took out the info stuff before I took a first look pic- check out the info card---- yep, that is a nice little discount code!
Like I said- it's the little touches. Personalized sticker-check. Ok, want to see what the actual craft is?
Bam! The Bird's Nest Ring. These are the two pages of instructions I received in the box with a close-up shot of the final product. I was excited to see this as the craft, because I have to be honest, I had never done a DIY/Craft box before and I was scared it would be some crazy thing like this. Did you click on the link? You'll never unsee that. Anyway, this craft was right up my alley! Don't believe me? I have proof!
These are some of my most-worn pieces of jewelry that I adore. I picked them up at the Deep Ellum Arts Festival last year. I LOVE up-cycled things but really I just love unique pieces. Conversation starters if you will. They were made by different artists but the bracelet cuff is made from washers and the ring from antique watch pieces so yes, I DO love these types of things.
I know what you're thinking, "Is she ever going to actually show us the box?"
There ya go! Box contents- Wires, and glue, and a ring, and beads, and everything but pliers/wire cutters to have you set for the craft!! And FYI the ring is one of the expandable ones to fit everyone- thank goodness since my fingers are huge!
So did I actually DO the craft?!?!
Woot- I had some time yesterday afternoon to start in and had to stop before the second part of weaving the thinner wire in but thought I'd take a pic to show progress! I started weaving and then went off to work.
I went to work though and when I came back I kind of really loved where it was at with just the one gold wire. I am contemplating just weaving/glueing what I have onto the ring OR making it a necklace. I guess that's what crafting is about- making it your own- so right now I'm stalled- thoughts? Like I said I kinda love this look as is.
Verdict: First off, I am not going to price this bad boy- I think DIY/Craft boxes are just as much about the experience as the products you get. You can't price that AND I can honestly say if someone plopped the tools in front of me (maybe sans ring) I would have NO idea what to do- I need guidance. I think this is a good box for all levels of experience- for a newbie crafter, it let me do something not too difficult and fun and for an experienced crafter I think it be would just as fun (probably easier too) and of course they could go wild and create something new with it too. Another nice thing is that I have TONS of extra wire so I can make something with that too- bring out some creativity in me. I enjoyed trying this box and as I said before I was lucky since I loved the actual craft as well.
Give this box a try too with the discount code listed above!

I've been spotting similar "nest" designs on Etsy and it's really neat Lullubee included one to make yourself. Also, I really like your antique watch pieces ring - very unique!
ReplyDeleteI agree with you. I like the simplicity you have it now. And making it into a necklace would be adorbs
