August PopSugar Must Have Review

I have to admit, I get a bit jealous of all the people who receive their PopSugar Must Have box before I do. I've gotten it early a few times but this month was definitely at the tail end of shipments- of course I saw spoilers and reviews already but it's still the best to see it for yourself! This month had products that I thought were waaaay different sizes (after seeing said spoilers/reviews) so I tried to show things as they are in person- see for yourself!

PopSugar Must Have:
Type: Lifestyle Box
Cost: $35/month includes shipping
What is it?: Each month hand-selected products are delivered featuring must-have beauty, fitness, fashion, food, and home items. Each box delivers full-size and premium items worth over $100. Boxes introduce clientele to new brands as well as old favorites and deliver a variety of products each month. Use my referral link and use promo code REFER5 to save $5 on your first box.

Zee box

Ta-da!

First look!

Info booklet- with some example pages shown- it's a lot to take pics of every page!

Must Have Anniversary Gift:

Gorjana Open Circle Necklace: The big ticket item this month celebrates PopSugar Must Have's one year anniversary (although, technically they had a Must Have BAG last July). This was the first spoiler and I have to admit, even I like this a bit. My problem is again, it's gold, and I don't wear gold. I just don't- please don't try to convince me otherwise- gold looks weird on me AND I wear a silver ring 24/7 and I hate clashing silver and gold. Anyway, I thought I might be able to try this since it was delicate- well, turns out it's super tiny- see the right pic- it's the size of my thumbnail! The chain is also shorter than I expected. I am planning on gifting this but may try a trade or something. Also found out that Gorjana (which I love btw) used to make a super similar necklace in silver. Someday- they shall send non-gold jewelry! Price: $65

Special Extra:

NatureBox Granny Smith Apples: I subscribe to NatureBox but didn't mind seeing this since it was a new snack to try. Turns out they are pretty darn delicious. I love that they are actually whole slices of apple. Mmm. Henry (our yorkie-poo) was drooling while I ate these too! Price: ~$4

Must Have Home:

May Designs Weekly Agenda Notebook: I HAD to include their adorable sticker: People Against Ugly Notebooks. I feel ya! Yes, we live in a world with a hundred to-do lists on our phone/computer/tablet but I still prefer a written out to-do list. I use notebooks and sticky notes all the time (or whiteboards) and it's definitely true that the process of physically writing something out helps you remember! Plus, checking something off or crossing it out is SO much more fulfilling than deleting something on a screen. I love the chevron blue/teal design and I know this will get used at some point! Price: $15

Must Have Beauty:

Lulah Body Wash in Magnolia Fig: I don't know what happened in the past 30 days but this is like my 5th Body Wash I've gotten in a box... super weird. I'm not complaining about this full-size deluxe body wash though! Fragrances varied but I am definitely happy with this stellar smelling wash. Definitely a fan already!
Price: $11.25

Must Have Beauty:

Dermalogica Precleanse and Special Cleansing Gel: This two-step process is supposed to revitalize your skin care regimen. The precleanse gets rid of oil-based debris and primes your skin for the cleanser without clogging your pores. I admit, I'm skeptical of the precleanse, but I'm gonna try it. I got a cleanser from Ophelia's Apothecary that I was unsure of and now I love it so I can be wrong! I'm changing up my skin care a bit so this could be just what I wanted/needed. We shall see! Price: $9.50 + $10

Must Have Home:

Lunares Apple Bowl: This was the big surprise to me upon unboxing. This obvious back-to-school piece looked cute enough but I didn't realize it was tiny! It's about the size of a baseball! I don't know why I thought PopSugar Must Have would be sending a giant bowl but I did. I figured it could be used in the kitchen somehow as opposed to a teacher's gift (which it isn't listed as on the info card but it totally looks like it should be). It's so small though I don't know what to do with it so I'm gonna gift it to a friend who's a teacher. Sounds smart enough. It's a really nice bowl and very cute but I think a teacher is more deserving!
Price: $15

Must Have Home:

BentGo Stackable Bento Lunch Box: I always wanted a Bento lunchbox and now with this one we have two! (Got an orange one from The Fancy- not as cool though). I love this Bento box- it's perfect... except it's green. I really wanted the purple or blue one. I may try to trade in the FB trade group but 1) I'm lazy and 2) CJ likes green. We'll see. I got my box later than most so a lot of people did their trading already and it seems like a lot to spend money on shipping when I just want another color and don't really mind the one I have. Anyway, this is still my fav part of this box! Price: $15

Verdict: Altogether, this $35 box ended up being worth $144.75. PopSugar Must Have always dominates in value but it's still always impressive. I LOVED June and July's boxes from PopSugar Must Have and although I know a ton of people will disagree with me, I didn't love this month's box. It's still better than some I received earlier in the year but it doesn't compare with the past couple of month's of awesomeness. Starting in May PopSugar Must Have had come back to it's super great self and I was expecting wonderment from them for their anniversary month. Unfortunately, gold jewelry isn't my thing. I'll get use out of the body wash and to-do list but they aren't mind-blowing items or "Must Have" pieces. The snacks are nummy and I've excited for the demalogica trial so I'm not that down on this box. It was definitely solid- I've just seen better from them! I love PopSugar Must Have though and I'm all for the bento box, so here's looking forward to a great September box!

August RocksBox Review

Time for some more RocksBox! I was pretty speedy in returning my last package- not that I didn't love it- cause I did! I kept the earrings from July and I wore the other pieces out but I was excited to get more! Check out my awesome latest RocksBox! I don't understand how they get me so well!

The return bag/feedback card

The pretty PRETTY box and first look!

Some of the info paper.

First real look!

Dara Ring in Purple: Obviously, this is the first thing that caught my eye. SOOO different! This mondo ring is purple but looks a bit blue in the pics especially since I'm wearing that nail polish I got from GLOSSYBOX which is blue. Anyway, Dara Ettinger uses natural, raw, semi-precious, and precious stones, and metals to make her one-of-a-kind creations... again, you can tell right off that this is a rock! I love that I put it on my ring finger right away- I want someone to go, "wow, what a rock," and I shall laugh- mwhaha. Really though, this is a statement piece! I need to find a way to really work this. It requires full out outfit debauchery and craziness OR subtle polish/clothes etc to draw focus to the ring. I really like it but don't know if it's love yet since it's so craziness! Price: $110 (Member's Price: $88)

Gorjana- Westerly Stud Earrings in Silver: Another gorgeous Gorjana piece! These little beauts aren't big statements but they are delicately pretty which I do love! I can rock a statement piece but I love day-to-day jewelry too. I just got this RocksBox but I've already worn these out (the pic I took was terrible to I'll post "wearing" pics later) and have decided to keep these for good. Price: $35 (Member's Price: $28)

Robyn Rhodes- Raylene Necklace in Black Jade & Silver: It's a bit hard to see at first but this necklace has great details. I love that it's not just some print but three stones together. I have to say, those necklace holders do what they can but I still had to untangle this when I first got it, I HATE chains sometimes- thankful for my new vanity expansion/jewelry tree. Anyway, I really like this necklace, it's different but still simple. My only complaint is that the chain is a little small- I'd like it if it hung a bit lower but I tried it on with a dress it wouldn't have worked with anyway so I need a better neckline for it. We'll see if I fall in love with it once I find the proper outfit. Price: $76 (Member's Price: $60.80)

Verdict: So far from RocksBox I've purchased three items they've sent me (Wonder Woman Ring, Geometry Earrings, Double-sided Pendant) which means I've kept something each shipment AND this month will be no different. I'm at LEAST keeping the earrings and we will see after I wear the other two. I've really grown to love RocksBox and recently upgraded my subscription to a full year! It seemed like an expense at first to "rent" jewelry but I keep getting amazing pieces and I am actually wearing my jewelry again for the first time in forever! I'm excited to complete my looks and I get complimented on my accessories every time I go out! I couldn't afford to wear a $110 ring like this any other way so I'm stoked. I am trying $221 worth of jewelry this month alone!

Thanks to their first ever (and recent) RocksBox sample sale (which I was late for and missed out on earrings I saw/wanted), there are codes around for trying RocksBox for free! So use my link (pretty please- I earn credit that way) and try RocksBox for free the first month using code SAMPLESROCK!

Tuesday Musings

Yes, I know it's usually Monday Musings but I'm a slacker so you'll have to settle for a day late!

- So, last week, I had what you might call a mental breakdown. Oofta. Sorry for my lack of posts. I stayed in bed... a lot!

- My last Musings- two weeks ago- I asked for TV show recs and I just wanna say thanks!! I have binged on so many shows recently! The truth is I am a TV show addict and love to binge watch shows! I do know about pretty much every show I SHOULD be watching but when your Netflix, Hulu, Plex, etc queues have 100s of shows it's kind of hard to pick. I've watched fully (caught up on) Scandal, Girls, & Orphan Black. Awesome Sauce.

- I'm sure people know by now my obsession with ModCloth. I was just looking again today. I mean, a friend of mine told me her bf bought her a ModCloth dress for her b-day 1) because that's an amazing gift and her and her bf are super adorable and 2) because she knows I love it. Anyway, I wore the above skirt to church this past Sat and was worried it was too short for church... but I wanted to wear it sooo bad! Ever done something like that? I mean, I wore leggings with it so it's not like my legs were on display but it still felt wrong. I work at a Catholic Church as a cantor- meaning I sing at a microphone about 13 times in front of the congregation. Yeah, my ModCloth obsession might be too much considering I felt like I HAD to wear my new skirt that day and didn't really think about work for that evening service...

- CJ and I are going to San Fran soon-ish for a vaca! We needed a vaca and found cheap-ish plane tickets to San Fran so ta-da that's where we're going! I've been once but it was when I was 13 or younger and CJ has never gone! We're gonna go the site seeing route but we usually love to do one epic/fancy meal and so I'm looking for recommendations across the board! Fancy restaurants! Must-go food joints! Sites! Tours (not the site-seeing kind- like the food/booze kind)! Wineries/Breweries! The whole kit and caboodle! Anyone?

- Don't forget to enter my Birchbox Birthday Giveaway! It ends on the 20th! I hit 500 FB likes too so I might launch another giveaway!

- I'm hoping to get to my RocksBox & PopSugar Must Have reviews up today along with a codes/coupons post and a Sephora haul. This week I have NatureBoxIpsy (which I am sooo excited for), Birchbox, and The Honest Company reviews coming for sure. I've been really bad at tracking my stuff recently so there could be more coming... I also swear I am going to get to my DIY Vanity post and a Fancy Finds post up! Stay tuned!

August Birchbox Man Review

Enter my Birchbox Birthday Giveaway!

Grr it's Birchbox Man time! That's me being manly btw... I'm kind of in a weird mood so this could be an interesting post- or random. I'd go with random... Alright, anyway, I gifted CJ a yr of Birchbox Man back in July and since the first box in a Birchbox gift sub is a welcome box (think a "best of" kind of box) this was the first regular Birchbox Man box he got and he LOVED it! Check it out!

Type: Men's Grooming Box
Cost: $20/month includes shipping
What is it?: Birchbox- one of the most popular subscription services- offers the same curation for men! Men can sample the latest is lifestyle and grooming samples, get advice on how to use the new products, and then buy full-size products of what they love! From shaving to skincare Men receive premium samples of top-notch grooming supplies on top of products ranging from pocket squares to bottle openers.  Please use my referral link if you sign up. The Men's sub also has a waitlist but it is only about 2 weeks long.

Outer box- same as the regular Birchbox one but not pink!

Inner box- this one is different than the women's version as it pulls out like a drawer. Much larger too!

First look- "Serve it up" is the August theme!

Info card

*CJ got box #20 out of 23.

First look!

Ernest Supplies- Cooling Shave Cream: This little pre-shave oil was something CJ thought he wouldn't like. The reason? I didn't lather at all... but it super protected his face and he said the "cooling was really nice." I love a product that actually lives up to it's name! Why doesn't that happen more often with women's products? Jealous. Price: $2.50

Plant- Face Oil: This looked super cool- to be honest, I'm a sucker for good packaging and pictures. The pics are pretty good- I think everyone can admit that. I didn't know how much CJ would care for it since he doesn't like lotions half the time because they feel greasy to him, so I couldn't imagine oil being better. He said it was weird, the main problem being it smelled oily- on your face. Bummer but still fun to try!
Price: ~$4

Herban Essentials- Eucalyptus & Lemon Towelettes: I actually got a packet of these in my Bestowed box and so I knew about these buggers already. They smell awesome and I think CJ was happy to have some of his own. I use them not as wipes but as refreshing scents and they can be used on your body, hands, face, or even your desktop (aka workspace). That sounds like the winner right there! Price: $1.60

Billy Jealousy- Adrenaline Junkie Energizing Facial Scrub: This gentle-yet-effective scrub it supposed to leave skin smooth and energized. It has peppermint oil which I'm guessing is the energizing portion and CJ is sold! This is a Birchbox Man exclusive and CJ is definitely a fan. Might have to get him some more!
Price: $3

Roosevelt Supply- Canvas Apron: SUPER cheesy pic of CJ. I know. He works for Chipotle IT btw and was in the stores all day, thus the Chipotle T-shirt. Anyway, CJ (and I) were stoked for this apron. It's pretty great and CJ is definitely the cook in our house (he's actually a great cook so after we started dating I stopped attempting to cook) and he'll get a lot of use out of this super durable apron. Side note: a few boxes had polo shirts instead and one box had a wallet... Boo- soo glad we got the apron! It's perfect for CJ. Price: $28

Verdict: Let's see, the $28 apron seemed to cover the $20 box but just to make a point, the box total came to $39.10. I think it was worth it! If you want to get something for yourself (if you're a guy), or your hubby, or bf, or friend, or dad, etc., this box makes a pretty sweet gift. I mean, that's what I did! I have to admit, getting Birchbox Man does make me a bit jealous since they get great samples AND cool lifestyle products- I think I'd pay more for Birchbox if I got sweet things like this. Anyway, point being we loved it! The end.
