T.O.M. Boxes
Ladies only post:T.O.M. boxes? Time Of the Month. Here's my post for boxes devoted to boxes for that Time Of the Month. As subscription box interest has grown, box ideas and companies keep popping up. So, it only seemed natural that there should be a monthly subscription box devoted to the other thing that comes monthly.
There are four companies I know of that provide T.O.M. boxes, 3 of which I am trying and reviewing in the coming weeks (there is one I know of in the UK if anyone is interested). Here's the lowdown on Juniper, Le Parcel, My Cotton Bunny, and 28 Day Hug:
Type: T.O.M. Box
Cost: $28/month
What is it?: This company which started up in 2013 delivers a deluxe box complete with your choice of tampons (20+), pads, pantyliners plus treats! Juniper begins each subscription registration by choosing from the 6 brands of tampons they offer (which you get a variety of absorbency), then you choose whether you would like backup protection (pads/pantyliners), and if you would like some Midol thrown in! You choose the date you would like to receive the box and then the tampons box has a phonenumber on it to text so they can track your monthly guest so your box will always be on time and continue customizing your box. Each box comes with a bevy of treats including honey sticks, chocolate, tea, snacks, etc! You get a starter box to begin and after that you work with Juniper to customize based on your needs.
My pre-review thoughts: Checking out other reviews and their website, I loved this box's contents. This box really seems to spoil you at a time which would be great to feel spoiled! I love that you get an array of protection and can choose your brand. I also love the idea of sending some Midol with the box- let's face it, chocolate doesn't fix everything. What may be my favorite part of the box are actually the honey sticks: as a singer it is awful that once a month my vocal chords dry out and to have honey sticks on hand would be great for me! I also am really excited by the company itself, they seem to be really involved in making their customers happy. Case in point: I had a billing question/problem after ordering my box and they replied to me AND fixed the problem in a matter of hours on a Saturday! Talk about customer service.
My pre-review worries: 1) The price- $28 so $1/day is a lot for me BUT if I love the box when I get it I can see myself keeping it up as every girl deserves to treat herself during her T.O.M. 2) There is no login. I'm hoping the customization part of their company replaces the need for a login although in this age of online everything, it feels weird not being able to login and change things around even though that is available through e-mail/phone number.
How much do they love their product? They are giving all my readers a FREE BOX!!! You read that right, A FREE BOX! When you register and it asks you how you heard about Juniper write in my blog: Broke Beauty Blogger and you get a free box to try! Again: FREE BOX!
Type: T.O.M. box
Cost: $15 + shipping
What is it?: This ladies only box is a new start-up with the tagline, "Nature's gift stinks, so we give you a better one." Every month Le Parcel sends out 30 protection products of your choice. You choose your favorite brand (from 4) and decide what and how many (if any) tampons, liners, and pads you want. Every box comes with a chocolate treat and a special gift product. The box is perfect for those who love organization as the box is actually a pull out tray with four separate sections for your protection, treat, and gift. You choose the date and will receive the box on that date. Check out their website to watch the adorable info video they have on their homepage. They have awesome infographs and mottos all over their site too (check out the logo above Le Parcel: Every Month Without Fail). Le Parcel has a great spin on turning your T.O.M. around.
My pre-review thoughts: I am reviewing as many boxes as I can get my hands on to see what I love and to show my readers what boxes they might love (aka what suits your needs) since I started this blog. However, I decided on trying Le Parcel pre-blog. Why? For one, I love the customization you get from the start. You get 30 protection products but not some random array, you get to choose. No matter how many boxes of tampons there are in the store there isn't one that suits you exactly-how could they? This company lets you pick exactly what arrangement you want (totaling 30 of course). I also love the gift they have been selling: a really sweet watch. It's not so much that it is a watch but that it is something that isn't T.O.M. related and instead something that is actually a cool treat. Also, Le Parcel does have a login feature.
My pre-review worries: 1) The treat. The chocolate treat is a really small piece of chocolate. I could get their treats anywhere for a quarter. This, in the end, may be ok since I should be sticking to a diet and just giving myself a little treat but we will see how I feel when I get the box. 2) Will the gift be worth it? The video/pics make the gift look nice but will it be? I've loved the gifts I've seen on reviews so I'm hoping this worry is unwarranted.
How did I sign up for my first box? I used this coupon code: familyDBD, and received 30% off the first month (I ended up paying $15.50). Try out the code if you want to give this box a try too!
Type: T.O.M. Box
Cost: $13.75/month shipping included
What is it?: This box (which is super cute showing off their adorable logo) contains an entire box of tampons inside as well as a yummy treat and a gift. You can choose from over 6 brands of tampons and you can also choose which size absorbency. You also have the choice of a box of pads (pantyliners can be provided as well). Their FB page also says they are launching a tween box soon for girls just getting their period- what a great idea!- I wish I had had that sent to me when I was a tween! This box has rapidly grown in value since its start only a few months ago and offers a wide array of products as each month has a theme or idea although comfort is the main idea behind every gift. Each month, you can login and change which tampon/pad/absorbency you want so that you are still getting an array of types. This semi-brand new company is constantly growing and changing so expect new website changes, a referral program, and more customization coming soon.
My pre-review thoughts: The number one thing I love about this box is that you get an entire box of tampons/pads as if you picked it up at the store yourself. Why does that matter if you are getting the same amount from other subscribers?!? Because the tampons/pads are NOT repackaged. Meaning you know 100% that no seal has been broken and no product touched- that makes for a great frame of mind. While researching the company, I was told they were the only ones to really put their label out for the world to see. This doesn't mean they are screaming your T.O.M. to the world, just that you shouldn't be embarrassed about your period and take pride in being a woman. The price is also the lowest of the three tampon subscription boxes especially with s/h included in the price. As someone who is already spending every extra penny she has on subscriptions, saving a dollar here and there is essential!
My pre-review worries: 1) My main worry when this box first came out was the value. They initially had a cami, a treat, and a box of tampons- it looked a bit like something I put together at the drugstore. Yes, it is cheaper than other options, but was it going to feel cheaper? As the company has grown I've seen a significant growth in the boxes. Literally. The amount of stuff in the boxes has seemed to grow each month with the "treat" being several teas, chocolates and candy and the gift being multiple objects- I'm hoping this holds true when I get my box. 2) The gift. The first month was a cami monogrammed with their adorable logo which was way cute, BUT there was no option when registering for shirt size so at least one person got a gift they would never be able to wear. Months since have improved and I'm hoping mine is just as good as they have been of late!
Type: T.O.M. Box
Cost: $3.99 +s/h
What is it?: This T.O.M. is exactly what it says it is: A 28 Day Hug. Every 28 Days a girl just need a pick-me-up, a hug, if you will, and for a few bucks, 28 Day Hug will send one your way. This is NOT a tampon/pad/protection box but just a box with a treat. This care package from good & lovely includes some tea, chocolate, and some kind of aromatherapy treat like bath salts or a shower tablet. Each Hug comes in a discreet envelope that is shipped to you 4-5 days before your T.O.M. aka PMS central. If your cycle changes, a quick e-mail will change the shipping date for your Hug.
I haven't signed up for this yet (I will, I promise) so I don't want to say things as pre-review but I have to say for those wanting a monthly treat without the price, this could be perfect for you. I especially love the aromatherapy part of the box and am intrigued by a shower tablet now as I've never tried one before. This price might be a bit much for three things but keep in mind the little bit of chocolate isn't too little and it should be from a quality source. Again, I don't love the no login feature but they do up-front give you a way to easily and quickly reach out to them.
Bonus T.OM. Box:
While looking up 28 Day Hug I discovered a 5th T.O.M. box:
Type: T.O.M. Box
Cost: $44.99/month shipping included
What is it?: This Kit from 28 Day Hug's producers good & lovely is made for those women with "I wanna curl up and die" kinds of periods. This box includes supplements by Dr. Tori Hudson which are designed to make those who greatly suffer during PMS' lives easier! Each kit contains a supplement regimen as well as products to care for your body and of course products to pamper yourself.
For those people with big questions!
What about if I just use pads?
The boxes that offer protection do seem geared towards women who use tampons however Juniper and Le Parcel both offer backup protection in the form of pads/pantyliners and My Cotton Bunny send out boxes of pads if that is your preference.
Why would I pay money for what I already pick up in the store?
The answer to this is a three-parter: 1) The idea is to make the worst part of the month better and easier- yes, you could put together a box like these by yourself but would you? No. And this way you are getting a treat! 2) How many times did you get mother nature's gift, reach into the cabinet and find it empty or near empty? Now think about how nice it would be to never have to think about stocking up again- it is delivered to you (discreetly) right to your doorstep! Especially when you are not feeling great physically and emotionally, you don't have to venture to the store begrudgingly in that outfit that just didn't fit today with this stupid bloating... 3) This might not relate to everyone, but think about never having to buy tampons again! Especially not having to buy them from that awkward 15 year old boy cashier.

What if I try it and hate it?
Then cancel! Most of the companies are so sure you will be pleased that they have great refund policies too so you won't even be out any money.
Ok-that's it. My super long post is over! I am stoked to try these boxes as they all look great and my reviews will be up soon!
